Don't Blink

It's hard to believe my babies, my Washbellies, are 4 years old today. The time has passed so quickly and to look back and realize just how fast it has passed is a bittersweet feeling. I remember the days when we were in "survival mode" all too well. Those days seemed to drag on and on and it seemed like we were going to be stuck in survival mode forever. But, 4 years later, I can assure you, we no longer eat dinner with a baby in our arms trying to keep them quiet just long enough to eat something. I finally sleep through the night now, because after more than 3 years of them waking through the night they now FINALLY sleep all night long. The days of walking around in a sleep-deprived daze are over...well, kind of...sleep deprived for other reasons now.

I am blessed to have this amazing opportunity that so few mothers get to have. To carry two babies at one time is truly an extraordinary and amazing experience that you cannot possibly know unless you have done it. While it was completely miserable most of the time, I knew that the unique experience of feeling two little humans rolling around inside of me was special and to be treasured. I can still remember precisely what they felt like inside of me and I pray that I will never forget that.

While mothering twins is no walk in the park and it is by far, the most challenging task I've ever been given in this life, it is a most special gift to be given these two children to watch them grow. The bond between twins is an incredible force like nothing I've ever seen before. Some days they make me want to pull my hair out, or down an entire bottle of wine, but I wouldn't trade this experience and the gift of being their mother for anything in the world.

So happy 4th birthday to my beautiful twin daughters, Heather Lauryn & Hannah Grace, official deliverers of the cape!

  1. What a wonderful post! As a fellow twin mommy, I totally understand what you are talking about. I look back and wonder where the time has gone. Twins truly are twice the blessings and twice the fun!
